Setting up a Windows FLEXlm License Server

Begin by downloading the FLEXlm tools for Windows from the TMP Vision/SLIM download page. Once you have unpacked the FLEXlm tmpinc vendor daemon and obtained your license file from TMP, follow the instructions below to set up your license server as a Windows service.

Modifing the License File

Place the license file in the folder with the FLEXlm utilities where you unpacked the tmpinc vendor daemon package. (The program lmtools will be in that folder.)

Open the license file that you were provided in a text editor. You will need to specify the name of your server on the SERVER line in the file.

Setting Up the Server

The steps are summarized below. If you would like to see the steps and the associated lmtools dialogs, they are provided below. They are also lined to each step.

  1. Run lmtools.
  2. Select the Service/License File tab.
  3. Select the Configuration using Services radio button.
  4. Select the Config Services tab.
  5. In the Service Name box type: TMP Vision Server
  6. In the Path to the lmgrd.exe select Browse and select the file.
  7. In the Path to the license file select Browse and select the provided license file.
  8. (You may need to change the Files of type: to All Files)
  9. In the Path to the debug log file select Browse and type: Vision.log
  10. Check the Use Services box.
  11. Check the Start Server at Power Up.
  12. Press the Save Service button.
  13. LMTOOLS will ask if you want to save the settings. Press: Yes
  14. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
  15. Press the Start Server button.
  16. Select the Server Status tab.
  17. Press the Perform Status Enquiry.
  18. The last two text lines should show something like:
Users of vision: (Total of 20 licenses issued...)
Users of slim: (Total of 20 licenses issued...)

If that is displayed, then your server is up and running.

If you have already installed vision, the last step of the installation
instructions is to set the TMPINC_LICENSE_FILE variable in the vision.init
file.

Open the license file that you were provided in a text editor. (In this example the file name is: tmpvision.lic) You will need to specify the name of your server on the SERVER line in the file.

In this example, our server name is apu. The number after the server name is the FLEXlm hostid that you provided to TMP to generate your license.
